A new breed has been born and the foundation has been set. Thanatopsis has exposed Chicagoland to a new crossbreed of heavy-rock. With the fierce combinations of Metal, Punk, Funk, Pop and old-fashioned Rock, Thanatopsis is breaking new ground in terms of style and sound.

Formed in 1994 by frontman Kristian Lee, Thanatopsis forged ahead with little-to-no experienced musicians. Performing locally in the small town of Braidwood, IL, the Thanatopsis loyal fan base began to form. In 1997, Thanatopsis released "Breaking Their Chains.’" The next years brought changes to their lineup and style. Realizing that Thanatopsis had potential, Kristian went back to the drawing board and started the morphing process to create: Heavy Rock Chicago-Style!

With Tom Barbour on lead guitar, bass player Doug Francis bringing in the funk, and no-nonsense Chris Martorelli on drums, Thanatopsis was on its way. Busting out on the scene in 2001, Thanatopsis took charge of the stage. Performing for the Q101 Jamboree Post Party at Oasis 160 in Chicago Heights was the night Thanatopsis knew they were ready.

In 2002, Mike Moffit replaced Tom Barbour, completing the circle of musicians and rounding out the sound. In Early October of 2002, Thanatopsis released a new four-song demo to demonstrate their continuing growth. They are also prepping their fans for the 2003 release of their 2nd full-length CD.
