PURE was initially created by two friends who had a mutual love for music. Kristin Mickelberg and Dave Harris began writing and creating music in 1999 with simply an acoustic guitar and a beautiful, melodic voice. As the music progressed, an extremely solid lineup of talented musicians came together to create a unique sound that can be described as "Power-Pop Rock-n-Roll". With the obvious lack of any viable female rock acts right now - timing is crucial. PURE's sound drops with the nostalgia of Heart and Benetar with a crunching bite of Zakk Wylde to the groove of Chile Peppers. "We're definitely a guitar oriented band but I'm spoiled because my rhythm section is just as good," states vocalist Kristin Mickelberg, "I have very talented boys behind me. I couldn't ask for better players."
After a listen through of their CD, PURE's sound finds it's well laid roots in classic rock with plenty of acoustic guitar, great guitar solos (something that is sorely missing in today's music), a more that able rhythm section and hooks galore complimenting the vocals and melody lines. The CD is solid and diverse with every song having a different feel.
PURE's final lineup was cemented in August of 2001. They had gone through three drummers before finding the right fit. With Brad Kepcha on bass, Tom Studier on guitar and Terry Witte on drums, Dave Harris on guitar and Kristin Mickelberg on vocals, the group is extremely tight and polished. Kristin comes from an extremely talented background. Her mother sang in a band and her father is an accomplished guitar player. The remainder of the band has a background of playing alot of metal. Influences for the band range from Heart and Aerosmith to Frank Zappa, Dream Theatre, Faith No More and Pantera.
In little over a year this band has come a long way. Their first show was a benefit in September 2001 that raised over $50,000for the widows of the NYFD and NYPD. It was an honor for the band to be able to contribute to such a valuable cause. Since then, PURE has been fastly becoming a favorite in the Chicago suburban club circuit - opening up for national acts such as Sponge and Vanilla Ice.
